The Imo State Government has begun a sweeping clampdown on fraudulent native doctors operating within the state, citing their alleged involvement in ritualistic activities, scam operations, and aiding criminals.

Security operatives, acting on directives from the state government, have started raiding shrines and unlicensed herbal medicine practices suspected of engaging in deceptive and illegal activities. Authorities warn that individuals masquerading as traditional healers while engaging in fraudulent and criminal enterprises will face prosecution.

The move comes amid concerns that some self-proclaimed native doctors are exploiting vulnerable citizens, promoting superstition, and even aiding criminals in armed robberies, kidnappings, and ritual killings. Government officials emphasize that while traditional healing remains a respected practice, impostors tarnishing its reputation must be weeded out.
