A tragic family dispute in Adamawa State has left one man dead and another critically injured after a fight over a N200 piece of meat escalated into bloodshed.
The shocking incident occurred on Sunday, March 9, 2025, in Waltadi, a community in Dumne, Song Local Government Area. The victim, 38-year-old Friday Murya, was fatally stabbed by his younger brother, Monday Murya, a butcher, following an argument over the meat.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the altercation began when Friday took a N200 piece of meat from Monday’s stall without payment. When Monday demanded the money, the disagreement turned into a heated brawl, during which Monday grabbed a knife and stabbed Friday.
In an attempt to break up the fight, another elder brother, Sinairu, intervened but was also stabbed by Monday. Sinairu was immediately rushed to Dumne Cottage Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical care.
Friday was taken to Modibbo Adama Teaching Hospital in Yola but succumbed to his injuries.
As of Tuesday morning, the Adamawa State Police Command had yet to release an official statement on the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, stated that he had not been briefed on the matter.
The shocking case has sent ripples of sorrow through the Waltadi community, raising concerns about rising domestic violence and uncontrolled anger that often leads to fatal outcomes.
