There are reports that, aside reinstating and giving some of those who have retired from the system prominence in the administration of the institution, the Rector of the Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, Rev Fr. Wence Madu has also been accused of flooding all the sensitive positions in the Polytechnic, with either Catholic priests or Rev. Sisters.

Some lecturers who claimed to have been cowed into submission, posit that the Rector has boasted severally that he has the tacit support of the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for every action he takes. Hence, they, for fear of being victimized, declined to comment on or question most of the Rector’s unwholesome actions.

It was however gathered that, the school management is at the verge of employing more reverend fathers and reverend sisters, as heads of various departments, which is almost portraying the institution as a missionary school. “These reverend ladies and gentle and those the Rector reinstated after retirement, lack the guts to challenge or question any of his actions, because they can easily be shown the way out, hence he prefers them”.

Our source listed some of the sensitive positions already occupied by reverend priests and reverend sisters in the institution, as follows: Dean of Students Affairs, Rev Fr. Eze Nwankwo John, also doubles as Director of Sports, Director of General Studies, Rev. Fr. Igwegbe Isdore, is also in-charge of Examinations, Director of Academics, (APACUD), Rev. Fr. Ukwegbe, HOD Public Administration, Rev. Fr. Polycarp, HOD, Records and Statistics’, Rev. Sis. Resurrieta Agu. He is also alleged to be using some of the retired staff who should have gone home to rest for sensitive assignments and virtually sidelined some of the active, vibrant and experienced staff in the system. For instance, the Admission Officer is said to have retired years ago but the Rector is still using him for sensitive assignments, at the expense of those that are still in active service.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Chief Oparaocha confirmed the development but said, “aside Catholic reverend fathers, and reverend sisters, Anglican priests and those from other denominations are also employed here. The word flooded is not the right word. Besides,why the fuss about only catholic priests and reverend sisters?
