The sit-at-order declared by the members of the proscribed Independent People of Biafra on Friday witnessed partial compliance in Imo state.
Our correspondent observed that while most private business owners stayed away from work ,civil servants and corporate institutions like banks and schools opened for the day’s activities.
Vehicular movements in Owerri, the state capital, were skeletal until around 3pm when the major roads in the metropolis became busy.
While there were scanty number of people in various banking halls on bank road in Owerri in the morning hours, the banks witnessed large turnout of people from 3pm.
Most parents who failed to take their children to school in compliance with the order,told our correspondent that they didn’t want to take chances .
A parent ,simply identified as Ike told our correspondent that he instructed his wife to keep their children at home.
He said that the war of words between security Agencies and IPOB members made him to avoid taking the risk of taking his children to school on Friday.
The police spokesperson in the state,Andrew Enwerem,said that the Security Agencies were on ground and visible to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order.
Enwerem said that the command was happy with the operation show of force which sensitized the people on the need to go about their lawful businesses on the day.
He said that the Security Agencies had the capacity to protect the people from any group,especially the outlawed group.
