The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday claimed to have
traced N500 million properties to erstwhile Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang.
In a statement in Abuja, the anti-graft agency’s acting spokesman, Tony Orilade,
alleged that the properties located at No. 8 and 9 Gobarau Road, Unguwan Rimi
GRA, Kaduna State belonged to the retired military officer
According to Orilade, preliminary investigations revealed that the properties in
question were purchased from New Capital Properties Limited, a subsidiary of
Northern Nigerian Development Company (NNDC), Kaduna.
The serving senator representing Plateau-North in the National Assembly is
standing trial before a Plateau State High Court having been arraigned on May 7,
2018 by the EFCC on a 12-count charge bordering on an alleged N6.3 billion fraud
when he held sway as governor.
Meanwhile, the agency’s Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, has appealed to Nigerians
abroad to show more commitment in seeing that the nation takes the lead in the
fight against corruption on the African continent.
In another statement by Orilade, Magu made the appeal while receiving a
delegation of Nigerians in Diaspora led by New York-based Dr. Ifeanyi Obiakor at
commission’s head office in Abuja.
According to Magu, the EFCC plays a significant role in making national
investments more secure and protecting Nigeria’s international reputation
through prevention and detection of economic and financial crimes.
Obiakor, who is vice chairman and promoter, America Hospital and University of
Medicine and Sciences, Abuja, used the opportunity to submit a petition in
respect of an alleged N2.5 billion fraud involving some individuals under the
umbrella of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).
