The Imo State Government has earmarked N500m for the hosting of the state’s 2018 carnival expected to draw participants from the 27 local government areas in the state.
Governor Rochas Okorocha stated at the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Eziama Obaire, Nkwere council area the closing ceremony of an orientation course for the 2018 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members posted to Imo and Anambra states.
Okorocha, represented by the Commissioner for Talent and Youth Development, Ifeanyichukwu Onwueyiagba, said he would consider the request for the restoration of the monthly allowance of corps members serving in the state.
He charged those who would be engaged by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2019 elections to be guided by the spirit of patriotism and shun politicians who might want to use them to achieve personal ambitions.
The governor also them to take their primary assignments seriously, respect the traditions of their host communities and shun acts capable of thwarting the ideals of the scheme.
He said, “Peace is an essential ingredient for meaningful growth and development. Shun rancour, bitterness, acrimony, hate speeches and other negative acts that could stultify the essence of your service year.
“Accept your postings in good fate and the state government will not hesitate to reward those who distinguished themselves in their services to their fatherland.”
In his remarks, the state Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Sunday Aroni, commended those who contributed to the success of the orientation course.
