A giant snake which was identified as python was killed by labourers clearing the bush beside the office complex of Government Press, Ministry of Information Imo State at about 11:00am in the morning.
The labourers who killed the snake said they noticed its movement while working to keep the environment of the complex located along Akanchawa Road, News Owerri Imo State clean, but had to overcome the snake after the little fight it put up.
The complex which also houses Imo Broadcasting Cooperation was later crowded as people gathered to see the snake with no one believing that a creature of that size could be found anywhere near the complex.
The staff called for more action to be taken against a recurrence as a bite from such snake could end the life of an innocent worker.
As it is said, one man’s misfortune is fortune to another, an unidentified staff in the complex reportedly paid the labourers for the snake and made away with it.
An eye witness said that while some staff especially females were panicking, a certain group were really excited because they believe that the remains of the snake will end up in their pots as meat.
