The immediate-past President, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association , CPA Africa region and first Nigerian to head the globally recognized Union, Rt Hon(Dr) Acho Ihim has joined other world leaders in felicitating with journalists as they mark the 2020 World Press Freedom Day.
Ihim through his spokesperson, Ilochonwu Bennett paid glowing tribute to journalists the world over for enhancing what he called transatlantic relationship, Bi lateral unity and ethnic cohesion amongst nations.
Particularly, he prided media practitioner’s in the country as cardinal and critical stakeholders in the sustenance of the nations sovereignty and democratic system.
Ihim who is also the immediate-past Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly eulogized Nigerian journalists for courageously combating frontally the dreaded Corona Virus , otherwise known as Covid 19 through aggressive education and information on the dangers of the globally dreaded pandemic.
The Speaker emeritus affirmed pointedly that journalists timely enlightenment on the dreaded virus constituted serious clogs in the wheel of its spread in Nigeria.
He averred that the pen-pushing job is very tasking and risky and decried poor renumeration and working condition of members the profession in the country
Advocating for improved welfare, insurance facility and provision of morale boosting incentives for journalists in the country, especially, he tasked the union leaders on curbing activities of quacks to forestall further denigration of the good image of the noble profession, the fourth estate of the realm.
The Okigwe LGA-born political leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC , party assured them of his support at all times and wished them a peaceful and Coronafree celebration even as they discharge their onerous duties to the overall good of Nigerians.
