The Okigwe senatorial election may be underway soon as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has fixed resumption of activities at its headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement, INEC National commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye said the decision to resume formed part of the resolutions reached at the end of its meeting on Thursday.
Recall that the commission had suspended its services and closed its Abuja headquarters during the lockdown ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Revealing details of the meeting, Okoye said it focused on plans for the forthcoming elections in Edo and Ondo States, as well as other pending senatorial and state assembly bye elections.
Senator Benjamin Uwajumuogu, who represented Okigwe zone in the senate had passed away on December 18, 2019 after a brief illness.
Aspirants jostling to replace the senator have since emerged.
“The Commission will resume engagement with Political Parties, Civil Society Groups and Organisations, the media and other stakeholders in relation to the Edo and Ondo Governorship elections. The modalities for these engagements will
be worked out and considered at its next meeting on May 14, 2020.” part of the statement reads
