There was palpable tension in the Green Chambers on Monday 14th December, 2015, as House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating Non Remittance or Mismanagement of Non-oil Revenue, led by Hon Chike Okafor during its public hearing session at the National Assembly complex, walked out the team of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) led by the Executive Director Finance, Dr. Itotenaan Henry Ogiri and the team of Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC) led by the Executive Director Public affairs.

Trouble started when the Ad hoc committee chairmen insisted that the chief executives of these agencies must appear before the House Committee in person in the next scheduled hearing session.

The Ad hoc committe Chairman, Hon. Chike Okafor insists the house would want to deal with only the heads of the MDAs  who are expected to answer questions on none remittance of taxes/revenue to the federation Account.

It will be recalled that the Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara led Green had set up a committee specifically to investigate allegations of non-remittance or mismanagement of government taxes/revenues. This of course is in line with the promise of the principal officers of the National Assembly to assist the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government in its effort to recover all loot and non-remittances to the federation account.

With the steady fall of crude oil price in the international market, the federal government is determined to look towards non-oil revenue with which to drive the economy.
