Barring last minute intervention by the Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, prospective Batch A members of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, who are graduates of Imo State University, Owerri, Imsu, will be shut out of the programme because of the institution’s ongoing industrial strike action.
IMSU chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASSU, has for over one month now downed their tools in protest of nonpayment of salaries and allowances since January.
Investigations reveal that the lingering strike may cause the students of the citadel of learning who are billed for the NYSC camping which starts in two days time owing to non-issuance of statement of results .
A source said that the development has been frustrating the affected students who have few days to go camp.
The frustration, according to the source is borne out of the fact that without the statement of results, none of the students will be admitted into the NYSC camps.
He further explained that none of the prospective corps members who have fulfilled all requirements from NYSC for the one year mandatory national service have been issued with their statement of their results by the IMSU management .
According to him, if the state government and IMSU, ASSU chapter, fail to resolve their differences as soon as possible and immediately call off the frustrating industrial strike action, over 1,500 students who are penciled down for the Batch A NYSC camping will miss out.
