The month of April clean up exercise which held across Imo State, weekend, recorded huge turnout of people who partook in exercise.
The exercise saw residents, enforcement agents, security men and mobile courts fully in action and doing their best to make the programme a successful one.
In an interview with Barr. Uche Ezeibe, Waste Disposal Manager in the state, disclosed that twelve pay loaders, 50 heavy duty Macks operated during the monthly clean up exercise.
According to Barr. Ezeibe, while 40 macks operated in the day time, ten would operate in the night, explainily that fourty handlers, best described as enforcement agents were engaged during the sanitation programme.
He communicated that these are areas like Douglas Road where it is impossible to work in the day time because of the market, saying that disposal of the refuse start at 10pm and ends 4:30 the next day.
Barr. Ezeibe averred that the disposal site is located at Nekede, where the government and the community have mutual agreement.
To him, cleanliness is very dear to Governor Rochas Okorocha and efforts are being made to make sure that the State looks clean and ready to attract investors.
Barr. Ezeibe asserted that in order make sure that the sanitation exercise program becomes hitch free, Owerri was divided into eight zones, making every worker to know and concentrate in his own zone.
The waste disposal manager who appealed to the people to be complying with the sanitation programme and rules, asked to make use of the designated dumping sites.
Barr. Ezeibe informed that this month’s exercise was a bit hectic because of the Easter celebration which made the exercise not to hold in March even as he said that his team showed more commitment and determination towards making sure that success was recorded this time.
