Speaking to the newsmen, Prince Madumere stated that it is a policy of Imo State Government to identify and celebrate those who excel in their chosen professions, which he said Ekpendu represents, to spur the younger generation to appreciate and work hard towards achieving excellence and forthrightness in service.

Eulogizing Ekependu for his accomplishments within the period he served with the Nigerian Prisons Service, he described him as an illustrious son of Imo State and a goal getter whose appointment came at a time the Prisons Service had challenges but was able to weather the storm and returned the Service to its glory path.
