Imo State government has promised to re-absorb indigenes of the state sacked by its Abia State counterpart.
State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha made the promise Wednesday during the May Day celebration held at the Hero’s Square in Owerri.

He however stated that the affected indigenes would first be re-employed as causal workers and are entitled to stipends till modalities for their full employment are concluded.
‘All civil servants from Imo State who were sacked by Abia State Government can now resume with immediate effect in all the ministries, the teachers should go back to the schools, Okorocha stated adding: ‘But they will engaged as causal workers and they will receive monthly stipend of N20,000 until vacancies are created for their full employment.’
Earlier, the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, Comrade Reginald Anyadike had reeled out a litany of challenges facing in the state.
The challenges, Anyadike said include the non-promotion of public servants, non-payment of pensions to retired teachers/local council workers, non-payment of 17 months arrears of salaries to workers of Imo Newspapers Limited, publishers of The Statesman newspapers and non-subvention to health/educational institutions.
Highlights of the May Day celebration include the awards given by organized labour to Okorocha for his infrastructural development of the state.
Other awardees were Chief P. S. Bacha, CEO, Aluminum Extrusion Factory, Inyishi, Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN), Chief Steve Ibe, former NLC chairman and immediate past Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state, Chief Fidel Onyeneke.
