Five young men who were facing the wrath of a crowd for allegedly defiling an 8 year old sachet (pure) water seller in Owerri, the Imo State capital, were saved, thanks to police who quickly rescued the suspects from mob action and returned normalcy in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, Mr Andrew Enwerem who confirmed it, “we have rescued the suspects and returned normalcy in the area. Three were arrested while two flee. The arrested ones are cooling their heels in the police net while we are trailing the fleeing two others . The alleged rape victim is a 12 year old girl. “.
When asked about the whereabouts of the rape victim, Mr Enwerem was not sure if she was in police custody, but said that investigation into the matter has fully commenced with the view of bringing the perpetrators to justice.
