The Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has thanked immensely the electorate in Okigwe Senatorial Zone, Oru-East and Owerri West State Constituencies where the INEC conducted re-run election took place last Saturday, for voting the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
A release from the Chief Press Secretary, CPS t.Sam Onwuemeodo added that in the case of the Okigwe zone senatorial election, although INEC declared the election inconclusive after canceling the result from Osuachara ward in Isiala Mbano LGA, but the figures already on ground showed that the APC candidate, Ben Uwajumogu is in a very comfortable lead to the extent that whatever will be the outcome of the Osuachara ward at the end of the day won’t affect his victory.
For Oru-East and Owerri West state Constituencies where election also took place, the APC candidates won. According to him, all these developments have gone a long way to entail that APC in Imo is never under any threat by the PDP.
The release also stated that the governor had insisted on free and fair election for us to know what remains of PDP in the state after they had used all the rigging arsenals within their reach backed by all the security agencies and INEC in 2015 to rig the presidential and National Assembly election.
“And with what happened on Saturday, it is now very clear that the PDP in Imo cannot win any election in the state in a free and fair poll. The election last Saturday has made their weakness in the state manifest”, he added.
The governor also commended INEC for ensuring free and fair election and reiterated that election won’t be rigged again in the state.
He equally commended all the security agencies who were out to ensure that the people’s votes counted. The era of coerced victory in an election in the state is over and for good. Never again would anybody use security agencies to intimidate the electorate and rig election.
In his words, the governor does not hold anything against INEC for declaring the senatorial election in Okigwe zone inconclusive because of one ward out of the sixty-four wards in the senatorial zone. “We have always believed in the independence of INEC and that is why we won’t take exception to the declaration of the election in Okigwe zone inconclusive because of one ward”, the statement noted.
The CPS, also disclosed that the governor remains elated that for the first time since 2003, the PDP in the state would go into an election without the full backing of federal might, INEC and security agencies, and said Imo people would remain grateful to God for liberating them from the onslaught of the PDP during elections.
