Imo State capital, Owerri will be alive as the best of the best in Bongo music storm the refurbished Nze Dan Orji Bongo Square for the one year memorial of the highlife music legend who died last year.

The event which is tagged ‘Bongo Crusade For Dan Orji’ according to the son of the former Peacocks singer, Chinedu Orji, will be featuring the best in the trade, most of whom developed under the mentorship of the deceased legend.

Also part of the series of events set aside by the blazing Imo State Based Artistes League, the concert will be taking place on Nigeria’s Independence Day being October 1, 2016.

“There is no better day and way to celebrate a legend like Nze Dan Orji. I listened to his songs while growing up and even till date, they are still fresh and irresistible. This shows how talented he was and also the reason why Bongo artistes in the state want to celebrate him in a big way.

“The Bongo Square which was named after him is no longer what it used to be. It is now a high class relaxation spot in Imo State as well as the Entertainment Secretariat in the state. It is now well equipped and dedicated to the development of Bongo Music and entertainment in the state”, Hon. Iruno Chukwunonye, the SA to Governor Rochas Okorocha on Protocols and Entertainment and Chairman of Imo State Based Artistes League said ahead of the event.

He hailed the governor for fulfilling his promises to Imo artistes, calling on artistes to see that the facilities will be put into great use.

He then called on lovers of bongo music in the state and beyond to join in paying tribute to the music icon who spent his entire life making other happy.

He add that: “No one can afford to miss this ‘Bongo Crusade For Dan Orji’ because we expect to have the likes of Ababanna leading the team of bongo artistes who will trigger the Glory Of Bongo Music to the unquenchable pleasure of all guests”, he concluded.

The event will be kicking off by 5:00pm at the Eze Dan Orji Bongo Square, behind Imo International Convention Center, IICC, Owerri, Imo State.
