The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello over the general insecurity in the capital.

The resolution was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance moved by the deputy minority leader, Toby Okechuukwu on the kidnap of six persons from the University of Abuja staff quarters.

He blamed the lack of street lights, CCTV cameras and other security infrastructure for the situation.

According to Okechukwu, there is an influx of bandits into the city.

He also scored the ministry low on waste management disposal. Hence, the House resolved that the minister should appear before it.

Nicholas Ossai, while reacting to the motion said the Committee on FCT is already created sub-committees to look into issues of infrastructure.

However, Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila said issues raised by Okechukwu are beyond infrastructure.

Exercising his right of reply, Okechuwku said “As a matter of fact, I raised the issue of constituting the administrative structure. We must see things happen. Some functions must be delegated. When we interrogate him, then we can direct the committee to finish the job.

“The street lights that are not working, this makes it hard for citizens to be safe. We are talking about someone who is not working.”

The motion was subsequently taken.
