Stakeholders in Ogun State have continued to react to Sunday’s tanker explosion which left two persons dead while consuming property worth millions of Naira at Lafenwa Market in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The tanker was said to have overturned due to the bad condition of the Lafenwa-Ayetoro road at the railway line, spilling its content.

But, the Akinruyiwa of Owu Kingdom, Chief Olumide Aderinokun, accused the Ogun State Government of failing to perform its responsibility in repairing the road.

In a chat with DAILY POST in Abeokuta on Monday, Aderinokun described the loss of lives properties in the popular market as worrisome, saying “the state government could have acted on time to prevent the tragedy.”

According to the House of Representatives candidate, “the fire incident is worrisome and horrific because the government should have provided urgent measures like security for firefighters when they are combating this sort of situation.”

He expressed worries that the tanker exploded hours after it fell because the government failed to take urgent action towards rescuing the situation.

“It is sad that the accident happened in the early hours of Sunday but nothing was done to evacuate the fallen tanker until it exploded,” he said.

While commiserating with the affected ones, the real estate developer said he was sad because the damages caused by the inferno had deprived affected traders of their means of livelihood, while some have recorded an irreparable loss of lives and properties.

He also comforted the victims, assuring them of his support through his Olumide and Stephanie Aderinokun Foundation.

Likewise, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Chairman in Ogun State, Olaposi Oginni, said he had for over two years repeatedly called on Gov Abiodun on radio and other media to repair the Oju-Irin part of the Lafenwa road.

“New Nigeria People’s Party saw it coming and we called the attention of Gov Abiodun to attend to this dangerous spot at Lafenwa, but nothing was done.

“Do we need to wait for calamities before a responsible Government responded? How much will it cost Ogun Government to repair these bad spots?” Oginni queried.
