Akwa Ibom State government on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, ordered the revocation of all the outdoor advertising installations in the state.

The order came in the wake of alleged non-compliance to the revised guidelines issued on January 06, 2021, by the Ministry of Environment by the vendors.

The Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals, Mr Charles Udoh who disclosed this in a press statement issued to journalists in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital said the revocation was with immediate effect.

The statement reads in parts, “Following the spate of non-compliance with the Revised Guidelines on Outdoor Advertising in Akwa Ibom State, issued on January 6, 2021, by the Ministry of Environment and Solid Minerals, all approvals for outdoor advertising installations are hereby revoked with immediate effect.”

The Commissioner, however, ordered Owners of outdoor advertising structures to vacate the premises or remove the structure within seven days or risk being blacklisted.

“After the expiration of the notice, structures will be removed by the ministry and owners of such structures will be blacklisted. New guidelines will be issued in due course. Members of the public and advertising practitioners are pleased enjoined to take note.” The statement added.
