Jay Jay Okocha has said that Nigeria did not miss Samuel Chukwueze after the winger was substituted for Chidera Ejuke in their first game against Egypt on Tuesday.

Nigeria beat the Pharaohs 1-0 in the Group D opening match in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho’s 30th minute volley.

According to Okocha, a former Super Eagles captain, Ejuke made an impact in the game, to the level that the absence of Chukwueze on the pitch was not felt.

“The good thing about the Nigeria team is that we don’t rely only on one player,” Okocha told Super Sports.

“We’ve got good attacking options, you can see the substitute Ejuke coming in making Chukwueze as if he was not there, we didn’t miss him when he got substituted because Ejuke realized that he has to fill in those shoes and do what is required from him.

“If he had been a bit more experienced, a bit more clever in front of the goal I think he could have gotten a goal.”
