The Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya, has tasked lawmakers in the state to ensure purposeful representation and credible legislation as they resume the 2022 legislative year.
A statement by Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, the Director-General, Public Relations in the state Assembly, informed that the speaker made the call at the resumption of plenary on Thursday, following the 2021/2022 end of year recess.
Magarya urged the lawmakers to ensure commitment and resilience in using their mandate to actualise the uncommon transformation agenda of the administration in the state.
Emphasising the need for the House to focus more on legislative business, Magarya reminded lawmakers of the challenges of electioneering ahead of the 2023 political year.
He said, “You are reminded of the challenges contained in the 2022 legislative year which is a political year ahead of the 2023 electioneering, towards the success of the ruling party (APC) in the state and safe return of Governor Bello Muhammad MON (Matawallen Maradun) in the second tenure of the present Administration.”
The Assembly, also at plenary, paid tribute to a deceased member, late Ibrahim Muhammad Naiddah, who represented the Gusau 1 constituency in the state.
”The elder statesman was always punctual, he was an accurate timekeeper who doesn’t deal with African time on any appointment and particular when it comes to prayer timing”, Magarya said.
Members of the House, who took turns to eulogise the deceased lawmaker, described him as ”God-fearing, humble, dedicated, hard-working and unbiased”.
The House prayed to God to grant his soul Al Jannatu-Firdaus and also give his immediate family the heart to bear the irreparable loss.
