Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri was a scene of joy on Saturday, October 14, 2017 as Heartland Football Club of Owerri regained promotion to the Nigeria Premier League having been relegated just one year ago.
The Naze Millionaires were relegated last year following an unsuccessful season, but with the Nigeria National League coming to an end, Heartland FC joined the likes of Kwara United FC, Yobe Desert Stars and Go Round FC to gain promotion into the Nigeria Premier League after a goalless draw ar home against Delta Force FC.
Heartland FC finished at the top of the table of the Southern Conference of the Nigeria National League with 61 points from 32 games, ahead of Go Round FC who finished with 57 points.
They could have treated their home fans with a victory on the final day having already gained promotion after a 2:1 over First Bank FC, but were held goalless by the visiting Delta Force who in several occasions came close to scoring in the match.
Heartland FC tweeted “WE’VE BEEN PROMOTED!!! Just one year away and #HeartlandIsBack to the #NPFL” (@HeartlandFC_ng).
