No fewer than eight people were reported dead in an auto crash along Owerri-Aba road in Imo State, yesterday.
The accident which cause was yet to be established as at press time happened around 2pm.
The bus which was said to be fully loaded with passengers was reportedly travelling from Owerri to Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State.
The casualties were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri for treatment.
When Nigeria Newspoint visited the Accident and Emergency Department of FMC, Owerri, medical personnel were seen battling to save the lives of the victims.
People also crowded the premises of the hospital eagerly waiting to find out if their relatives and friends were involved in the auto crash.
Those who spoke to Nigeria Newspoint informed that while five passengers died on the spot of the accident, three died on arrival at the hospital.
But Mr. Chiemeka Eronini, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of FMC, Owerri said only one yet to be identified person died.
Mr. Eronini who commended the hospital’s personnel for their professional conduct, stated that most patients’ conditions had been stabilized.
He thanked the management of the hospital for mobilizing doctors and nurses quickly to save lives.
