The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 northern states and Abuja has observed that the persistent scarcity of fuel in Nigeria and the pains of having adulterated fuel in circulation have further increased the hardship Nigerians are going through for about a month now.
According to a statement issued by its Vice Chairman, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, “Our leaders should show pity on hardworking Nigerians who are spending hours and nights at fuel stations, commuters who are paying high transport fares and waiting for a long time to get to work and back home after work due to lack of fuel to buy.”
CAN expressed worry, querying the Minister of Petroleum and what the ministry has done to remedy the situation.
The statement lamented that Nigerians are still battling insecurity, poverty, and now fuel crisis, saying that nobody has ever been held responsible for all the pains, sufferings, and the poor services that Nigerians are getting.
The statement noted that the power distribution is still poor and many Nigerians depend on fuel to power their generators at home.
CAN questioned why the minister, who is President Muhammadu Buhari, has not tendered a public apology to Nigerians.
It opined that the country’s citizens are considered to be the most patient people on earth, stressing that they have been enduring bad governance, poor service delivery which has led to deaths that could have been avoided by many family members, friends, and associates.
The statement wondered how the country, a major oil producer, fail to fix its refineries and find lasting solutions to the challenge of oil subsidy.
It observed that unless and till someone takes responsibility to deliver services to citizens or to resign for failure to deliver services to the nation the crisis may not end soon.
