A faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State loyal to the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has protested against the state’s Commissioner of Police for allegedly castigating the former governor.
The group, The Osun Progressives (TOP), claimed that the command is showing “unbridled loyalty” to Governor Gboyega Oyetola and taking sides.
Led by the leader of the group, Rasaq Salinsile, the political group stormed the state headquarters of the Osun State Police Command on Wednesday.
The members of the group stormed the command with different placards with inscriptions like: “Freedom of Association is not a crime”, “CP Olokode, stop being Oyeyola’s stooge”, “Stop sending our members to prison”, “Egalitarian society is our demand, be just to all” among others.
In his words, “It is a sad tale that your Command, without any of your men in the Minister’s convoy, as it pleases your master at Okefia Government House, concluded that “Minister brought in hoodlums to disturb the peace of the state.”
Salinsile claimed that the command is incapable of living up to the billings of their core duty as protector of lives and property of all citizens.
“The malaise of serving the purpose of only Governor Oyetola and his men, CP Wale Olokode has blinded your Command from going after criminals who have invaded the Osun landscape big time since you assumed duty as the Commissioner of Police in the state,” it said.
“That is why there are so many cases of unresolved kidnapping, murder (especially that of OAU MBA student, Timothy Adegoke that has to be taken out of your Command because it was obvious you have been compromised), ritual cases, cult war e.t.c.”
The group, however, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to order an investigation into the attack on Aregbesola and direct the Inspector General of Police to post Olokode out of Osun.
