Mr. Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has applauded the judiciary for passing a death-by-hanging sentence on four armed robbery convicts in Abuja.
CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Acting Force Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.
Adejobi said that the convicts, Tochukwu Uwalaka, Miracle Amaechi, Jamil Abdulsalam and Gideon Igbabo, robbed their victims of a 2006 Xterra Jeep, two HP laptops and a 2008 Toyota Camry on August 23, 2016.
According to him, they also carted away the victim’s phones, jewelry, a digital camera, N200,000 and other valuable items.
Adejobi explained that on the day in question, the convicts threatened a ten-year-old daughter of the victim at gunpoint and ordered her to assist in getting access into his house in Kuje, Abuja.
He stated that operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the police apprehended one of the suspects who led them to his three accomplices.
The spokesman also said that the convicts were charged to court following diligent investigation for offences of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery and were sentenced on January 26, 2022.
He said that the IGP hailed the achievements of investigation units and tactical squads of the Nigeria Police Force for various convictions recorded in cases investigated and charged in courts. (NAN)
