President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Nigerian Senate, seeking accelerated passage of a Bill for an Act to establish the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO).
This was, even as the Senate also received the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission Bill, transmitted to the National Assembly by President Buhari.
The bill was accompanied by a letter that was read by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, during plenary on Tuesday.
The management and board of FUHSO have been constituted by the Federal Government in 2021, with Professor Innocent Ujah as the Vice-Chancellor.
The institution has also kick-started arrangements for academic and other extracurricular activities.
Buhari, in the letter, said the Bill which was also transmitted to the House of Representatives for consideration, seeks to establish the Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo.
He prayed for the expeditious consideration and passage of the Bill by the upper chamber.
On the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission Bill 2021, Buhari explained that the request for the passage was made pursuant to Section 58(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
According to him, the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission Bill 2021, seeks to enforce standards and provide federal government intervention toward the repositioning of senior secondary education in Nigeria.
