Senator representing Plateau North, Istifanus Gyang has described the killing of Internally Displaced Persons and injuring of others trying to rebuild their ancestral homes at Rantis, Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State, as ‘the height of impunity and wickedness”.

He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to redeem the Federal government’s pledge of N10 billion to assist in rebuilding and resettling communities destroyed by terror attacks in the State.

DAILY POST recalls that two people were killed and three others injured at Rantis community in Gashish District of Barkin Ladi LGA, Wednesday afternoon while trying to rebuild their ancestral homes destroyed by attackers about four years ago.

Gyang who was reacting to the incident through his Special Assistant on Media, Precious Nyako, also called on the Commander of the military task force responsible for the maintenance of peace in the State, code-named Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) and the Commissioner of Police in the state to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.

He said, “The terror attack of Wednesday 5th April 2022, on IDPs who went to rebuild their ancestral home at Rantis, Gashish in Barkin Ladi local government killing two persons and wounding several others has outraged Senator I. D. Gyang who described the attack as the height of impunity and wickedness.

According to the Senator, “it is obvious that the terror attack was meant to deny the return of the native IDPs to their ancestral home and turn the displaced communities in Gashish into a new homeland for killer herdsmen for permanent forceful occupation.

Gyang who is the Deputy Chairman Senate Committee on Defence added that “Consequent upon this heinous act, I’m calling on the Commander Operation Safe Haven and the Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command to ensure that the terrorists are apprehended for prosecution.

He also urged that security be provided to guarantee the safety of the IDPs undertaking the rebuilding of their ancestral home.

“I’m equally reminding President Muhammadu Buhari of the need to redeem the N10 billion Federal government pledge which was made to assist in rebuilding and resettlement of communities destroyed by terror attacks in Plateau state”, Gyang stressed.
